  Chemring Countermeasures Ltd

The Chemring Countermeasures Technology Centre at its High Post site on Salisbury Plain is the leading centre for innovative pyrotechnic and materials design, development, optimisation and integration into countermeasure components and dispensing systems. The Technology Centre houses a unique rapid prototyping facility to ensure the swift introduction of customer specific countermeasures requirements and concepts.

Chemring Countermeasures Ltd capabilities within the 3C Alliance are as follows:

Environmental Testing including vibration, damp heat, cold, sand and dust etc.
Indoor and outdoor pyrotechnic test ranges.
Chemical development laboratories.
Hazard data sheets and safety cases.
Measurement including specialist IR and high speed video photography.
Other Chemring Group sites for storage, testing and training requirements.

The initial focus for Chemring Countermeasures within the 3C Alliance is on Environmental Testing.

  Cranfield University, Royal Military College of Science at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.

The Royal Military College of Science has a new Business Development Office whose aim is to advance exisiting and new buisness opportunities on behalf of the University and its staff. The purpose of the new Business Development Office is to support academic researchers within Cranfield University at RMCS and external business clients in research, development and testing activites.

Cranfield University’s capabilities within the 3C Alliance are as follows:

Testing of energetic materials, including sensitiveness, sensitivity, explosiveness, stability and compatibility.
Small scale test and evaluation of energetic materials and ordnance including blast and velocity of detonation measurements.
Safety and testing.
Education, training and research in explosives ordnance science and technology.
Synthesis and characterisation of energetic materials and formulations.
Safety and environmental case studies.

The initial focus for Cranfield University within the 3C Alliance partnership will be on energetic materials synthesis, characterisation and safety testing; education, training and research and safety case studies.

  Cranfield University Ordnance Test and Evaluation Centre - COTEC

COTEC has excellent range facilities and employs experienced ammunition technical officers and trial conducting officers. Typical field trials carried out, which may be fully instrumented, include explosive ordnance disposal and demilitarisation.

The range can conduct trials into the firing, incineration, open burning and detonation of a wide range of surplus pyrotechnics, explosives and conventional munitions.

COTEC’s capabilities within the 3C Alliance are as follows:

Test and evaluation including UN Test Series 6 and Insensitive Munitions testing.
Research and development testing of high explosive ordnance and ballistic systems, including blast and fragmentation analysis and ballistic trajectory measurement.
Specialist testing; high altitude chamber and flare test track to 300m/s.
Demilitarisation services.

The initial focus for COTEC within the 3C Alliance partnership will be on large scale test and evaluation and demilitarisation.
